Bangalore: Recently, the IT industry witnessed a surging demand for Data Analysts which was higher than the demand for programmers and software developers. The scope of data analysis has also increased by leaps and bounds.

Data analysis is becoming important across all industries and if used wisely, it will prove beneficial. Sports have also taken advantage of the benefits. Data analysts strongly believe that the new technology will increase the demand for more data analysts.

However, a study done by EMC revealed that about 63% of data analysts feel that the profession will be undermanned in the future. The unprecedented growth of the internet will provide analysts with a huge amount of data.  But most of them will not be able to make use of it. “Data is the new oil. Unfortunately, the technology has evolved faster than the workforce skills to make sense of it, and organizations across sectors must adapt to this new reality or perish,” says Andreas Weigend, Head of the Social Data Lab at Stanford and the former Chief Scientist at Amazon.

From the study, we can also see that the best source of new data science talent comes from students studying computer science which is followed by other disciplines at 27%. The biggest obstacle to organizations to adopt data science is not only the lack of budget or resources and also the deficiency of the right skills.

Data analytics is widely used by many business organizations to better understand their customers. Traditional methods such as reports and dashboards are running obsolete. Businesses are not only looking at data analysts to only understand and interpret data, but also to work with the organization’s leadership teams to facilitate strategic decisions. 35% of data analysts work with the management, 33% with the IT Admin, and 36% as programmers while 23% as graphic designer.
