Bangalore: The onset of any business project needs proper planning and some serious consulting before work starts on it. What if you have not planned it properly, do you know how you are going to proceed further with it? You may have invested a huge amount of money on your project but a last minute review can screw it up. When businesses are ready to take off in BI, these types of situations are often encountered.

There are some organizations have faded away in the pretext of getting successful business value that they even could not the complete the BI projects in the first place. Brian Knight mentioned some points on Sqlmag.com following which one can avoid the ending up with a faulty BI project.

Lengthy Projects

Many BI projects are either too large and take almost 3 to 6 months to get completed depending on what to work on and how. Even after that, many projects fail because of improper planning and insufficient funding.

The proper way of working on this project can be thinking about the ideas which have been decided for the project, again and again. You can follow the Scrum Method which makes the business leaders and IT people meet up often and get into a discussion on the relevant project. In this meeting, they can discuss about what they have achieved so far and which are the tasks that did not get completed.

Other than these, there are 3 more points which need to be discussed. First, view the achievements that you have made, secondly- what are you going to do next and third- what are the barriers that you are facing. Following these methods will not only bring value to the iteration, but will also help the BI leaders to improve themselves accordingly.

Delay in Project

BI projects should have a proper sponsorship to complete the project in time. Unnecessarily enforcing ideas in the middle of the ongoing project can delay it, inviting some unwanted consequences. If the project is handled by a Project manager having a good amount of experience to handle big business dealings, then it will be more productive and result oriented.

Data Quality Issues

Almost all companies are dealing with data quality issues. Some recognize it while they begin a reporting. One solution for this problem is the SQL Server Integration services (SSIS). With the help of this service you can merge up your information even if it carries many duplicate copies. It can locate the original copy and let you know which is the master record. Another solution is DQS Cleansing transformation which is tied to Data Quality Services (DQS). Business analyst, data steward, or QA team can collectively decide what is good or bad.
