How to Cope with the Changing Trends In BI?

Bangalore: The ever increasing volume of data and the need to have real time information have increased the demand for business intelligence. With vast choices available, vendors are looking forward for an immense growth in the market.



The Business Intelligence sector was once dominated by only a few big players. However, at present as there is a lot of demand from the customers and the pressure on them to make the right choice has led the market to be divided into many fragments.



What is the State of the Market?
Ovum, last month reported that customers were not able to meet the BI change requests due to budgetary and resource pressure. Surya Mukherjee, senior analyst at Ovum said, “To keep delivering even the same level of insights as a decade ago, BI vendors and their solutions need to be more agile and adaptive than ever. Agility must go beyond simply making existing BI infrastructures run faster. It must also encompass elements of self-service, mobility and collaboration.”
Ovum also advised customers to ponder before buying a BI tool to ensure that it meets their requirements.  Tom Brown, founder of reseller The Information Lab said, "I've noticed an increasing demand for data to be put in the hands of the business users - the people that see value from it and make the key decisions are now spending more time sorting through complex data with a view to finding the answers they need.”



Who’s adopting the Changing Trends?
Customers may not demand for cloud now, however it is expected that they will be demanding for cloud soon and the reseller will need to meet this demand. Thus, resellers are not the only one who can identify this changing trend. Mike Cawthorn, Practice Lead, Trustmarque Solutions mentioned that business intelligence tools and analytics tools were the top technology as per Gartner’s CIO survey.
Lance Mercereau, Head of Global Marketing, Rosslyn Analytics said, "The hot topic in BI circles is cloud computing. Cloud-based BI delivered as a service is all the rage in the reseller market because these solutions are low risk/high reward for customers, enabling resellers to make greater margins than selling traditional on-premise BI solutions."



Are there any Open Source Options?
The BI market recently experienced a growth in open source marketing. David Abraham, Channel Manager EMEA at Actuate said, “Resellers and independent software vendors looking for the next significant and potentially lucrative way to add new value for customers and prospects would be well advised to look at the rapidly changing 'business intelligence' opportunity. Wait too long, however, and clients will start doing it for themselves.”
With a large number of vendors in the market, there exists a strong competition among them. To be a big player in the market, they need to ensure that they meet the requirements of the customer.
